GIMP


The image manipulation program for excellence in the world of free software.
Easy to download and install on windows, and almost impossible for your version of Linux do not take it as standard.

Gimp plugin registry is the official (and gnu / linux is a package even easier to install) where to find plugins, filters and scripts with which extend the capabilities of Gimp.


G'MIC is a collection of powerful scripts that complement and enhance the capabilities of Gimp. Another essential added GNU program editing bitmaps most famous.


If Gimp and you think well, imagine that you also enhance the capabilities of illustration. That's what happens with Gimp Paint Studio.
From Gimp 2.8, GIMP brushes PAINT STUDIO are incorporated in the program without having to download them from any site.

and one of the queens of Gimp, Maria Leandro, alias "tatica", aims to complete the monumental task of making 100 podcasts tutorials on Gimp. Going for 35, all good and all levels.


Belonging to the community OpenDesktop , like inkscapestuff and scribusstuff , is a good place to find filters, plugins, brushes, gradients ... and other resources shared with other programs such as fonts or images.

There are more software vector design, free and proprietary. But for my taste, this one takes the cake and my heart hairy. Multiplatform, and though divinely works on Windows, GNU and is a rocket.

Learn Quark AND InDesign

I can't believe you have a BFA in Graphic Design, but never learned Quark or InDesign in school. When I was in school, it was mandatory for us to take classes in Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark. InDesign was around but not widely used. InDesign was first introduced in 1999 and it is a combination of Pagemaker and Illustrator. Quark still dominates right now because the printers get the software for free. However, the skills for designers that use InDesign and know it extremely well are in high demand.
Quark has some similarities to InDesign, however, they are NOT the same. I've used Quark longer and find most of their shortcuts much easier to use than InDesign

E-learning design software

I have worked for many years as a trainer and a graphic designer.
I think the next step for me is to go into e-learning development.
I am not to sure about this step mostly bcs I dont know the software associated with the field captivate, capture, autherware.
Anyone know a good site i can doenload software for free or cheap.
I know its wrong but auther ware is a woping 3k thats NUTS just to see if I like it and will be using it.
Please help if u know a good software sharring site.

    • Get the Adobe collection of software, its great! If you have to choose, get photoshop for images and maybe corel draw for vector layout.
